5 things you need to know about the BT Switch Off 2025

5 things BT Switch off illustration1. What is it?

In 2015, BT announced the BT ISDN Switch off would take place in 2025, fast forward 8 years to 2023 and there are still many people who are unaware of it and what it means.

Traditional landline phones operate through ISDN, or analogue lines. BT advised that this landline network needs to be replaced because it is old and difficult to maintain.

Since 2015, there has been a transition to route phones through an internet connection, referred to as IP (Internet Protocol) or VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) connections.

BT aims to switch off its ISDN network in 2025, which will mean any phones, alarms and security systems relying on a landline connection will stop working.

2. There is no need to panic!

We have been monitoring the switch off campaign and although we find it hard to believe BT will hit the 2025 deadline, we are advising our customers to be prepared and move away from the ISDN network.

However, don’t be pressurised into signing up to a new contract. The switch to an IP or VoIP phone system is straightforward and as long as you have a robust internet connection in place, it can be done within a few days.

3. Moving to IP or VoIP is a cost saving opportunity.

At a time when we are all looking for ways to save money within our businesses, the BT Switch off provides the perfect drive to move your telecoms to a more efficient and cost-effective platform.

On average, we see a saving of 25% on telephone bills.
